Drilling Job Description

The Drilling group has six basic job positions; Crew Manager, Field Supervisor/Drill Push, HSE Advisor, Driller, Helper/Gravel Packer, and DOT Driver. Below are the individual duties and responsibilities for each of these positions.

Title: Crew Manager ————— Reports To: Vice President

  • Ensure compliance of company policies/procedures by all employees
  • Ensure operations are conducted to a high standard which meets or exceeds client requirements
  • Ensure proper quality control procedures are utilized
  • Effectively control costs
  • Active participation in operational and HSE issues and planning
  • Cooperate and communicate with client, permit agents, drill crew and recording crew to maximize efficiencies
  • Obtain approved variances
  • Communicate approved variances to all project personnel
  • Participate in the project start up meetings and ensure an absolute understanding of all topics discussed
  • Ensure that the organizational structure for the project is understood by all involved, including both DAS personnel and subcontractors
  • Ensure compliance with local, State and Federal regulation
  • Participate in the daily permit meetings and ensure an absolute understanding of all topics discussed
  • Ensure subordinates and subcontractors understand all Permit, DAS and Client requirements and communication channels
  • Ensure landowner, mineral owner and/or tenant instructions/stipulations have been passed on to the necessary crews and personnel
  • Process and QC data
  • Update maps
  • Supervise subordinates and subcontractors
  • Organize and coordinate the daily activities of subordinates and subcontractors
  • Schedule employee work breaks and rotations of assigned personnel
  • Order equipment and supplies and approve expenditures
  • Release crews and personnel from the project once operations have been completed to the satisfaction of the client
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
  • Maintenance, care and inventory of all assigned equipment
  • Ensure the office is kept clean and orderly
  • Complete daily production report and distribute to all applicable parties
  • Create and turn in weekly project summary to general manager
  • Inform General Manager of any problems and/or concerns
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings

Title: Field Supervisor/Drill Push ————— Reports To: Crew Manager

  • Ensure compliance of company policies/procedures by all employees
  • Ensure operations are conducted to a high standard which meets or exceeds client requirements
  • Ensure proper quality control procedures are utilized
  • Effectively control costs
  • Active participation in operational and HSE issues and planning
  • Ensure all training needs are met and up to date for all subordinates
  • Cooperate and communicate with client, permit agents, drill crew and recording crew to maximize efficiencies
  • Participate in the project start up meetings and ensure an absolute understanding of all topics discussed
  • Ensure all new personnel have been inspected using appropriate HS&E checklists
  • Ensure subordinates and subcontractors understand all Permit, DAS and Client requirements and communication channels
  • Ensure landowner, mineral owner and/or tenant instructions/stipulations have been passed on to the necessary crews and personnel
  • Supervise subordinates and subcontractors
  • Organize and coordinate the daily activities of subordinates and subcontractors
  • Inspect field operations for Quality Assurance
  • Journey Management
  • Maintenance, care and inventory of all assigned equipment
  • Ensure the field cargo trailer is kept clean and orderly, and all inventory is accounted for and available for each project
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
  • Inform Project Manager of any problems and/or concerns
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings

Title: HSE Advisor ————— Reports To: HSE Crew Supervisor/HSE Manager

  • Ensure compliance of company policies/procedures by all employees
  • Ensure operations are conducted to a high standard which meets or exceeds client requirements
  • Performs audits on trucks/equipment daily
  • Ensures all Field personnel are in compliance as far as PPE, proper procedures, etc.
  • Performs Procedure checklists
  • Monitors condition/maintenance of company owned assets
  • Ensures all crew personnel will be working in a safe-working environment
  • Journey Management
  • Ensures audits on equipment is performed on time and turned in to proper persons
  • Cross audits drills/surveyors
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
  • Keeps track of all field personnel at work
  • Incident investigation
  • Various Reports
  • Travels to each job checking HSE compliance
  • Inform HSE Crew Supervisor/HSE Manager of each department of concerns
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings

Title: Driller ————— Reports To: Field Supervisor/Drill Push

  • Ensure compliance of company policies/procedures
  • Take active role in learning the techniques used in the day to day operations
  • Ensure compliance with all ATF, OSHA, EPA, and any other governing agency
  • Ensure proper licensing is kept and valid
  • Notify Crew Manager of any violation concerning laws/regulations by any governing agency
  • Works safely and corrects operation of drilling rig when needed
  • Drills holes on shot point flags and supervises the loading of dynamite
  • Responsible for the safe operation and productivity of the drilling rig
  • Responsible for all equipment and explosive material
  • Responsible for the safety of the any personnel within 50 ft of the drilling rig
  • Journey Management
  • Maintains an accurate drill log
  • Ensure all equipment is accounted for daily
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are gathered for the day
  • Maintenance and care of all assigned equipment
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
  • Ensure the Company vehicle is kept clean and orderly
  • Inform Drill Push of any problems and/or concerns
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings

Title: Helper/Gravel Packer ————— Reports To: Field Supervisor/Drill Push

  • Ensure compliance of company policies/procedures
  • Take active role in learning the techniques used in the day to day operations of drilling
  • Works safely and corrects operation of operating equipment when needed
  • Loads dynamite in compliance with all governing agencies
  • Plugs the drilled hole with instructed material
  • Tests the cap after the hole is loaded and plugged
  • Responsible for the safe operation of equipment assigned
  • Responsible for the safety of the any personnel within 50 ft of the drilling rig
  • Journey Management
  • Can act as a relief driller but is expected to follow all rules and regulations
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are gathered for the day
  • Perform maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
  • Inform Drill Push of any problems and/or concerns
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings

Title: DOT Driver ————— Reports To: HSE Department/Crew Manager

  • Ensure compliance of company policies/procedures by all employees
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations, ATF Regulations, and all state regulations
  • Notify Crew manager of any discrepancies in violation with DOT ATF or any other governing agency
  • Ensure all equipment is accounted for daily
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are gathered for the day
  • Provide support to all drill/survey crews
  • Maintenance and care of all assigned equipment
  • Ensure the Company vehicle is kept clean and orderly and in compliance
  • Ensure proper licenses and medical cards are in compliance with the type of vehicle being driven
  • Journey Management
  • Completes all necessary paperwork
  • Inform HSE Department and Crew Managers of any problems and/or concerns
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings
